In 1989, The Montreal Jazz Festival presented eight consecutive nights of Charlie Haden and his music. Each concert featured him in a different setting, and the second night of the series found him in the company of pianist Geri Allen and drummer Paul Motian. A sympathetically matched trio, they each composed two of the album's six pieces.
Deft and varied, the music ranges from Haden's fairly straight-forward blues construction, "Blues In Motian," to the warmly introspective balladry of Allen's "For John Malachi," to Motian's stridently modernist "Fiasco." Haden's gorgeous "First Song" is also performed with every mournful melodic turn given full emotional weight. The concert was superbly recorded, affording it all the warmth of a studio recording with the added edge of it being musicians performing before a rapt audience.
録音 : ステレオ (Live)
