Prolific New York City-based avant-garde composer John Zorn penned more than 300 new songs in 2004, and 13 of his more klezmer-infused tunes are performed here by the Masada String Trio, a branch of Zorn's ongoing Masada project. This second volume in the Azazel series features Mark Feldman on violin, Erik Friedlander on cello, and Zorn regular Greg Cohen on double bass. The trio creates music that is at once frenetic, melodic, and dissonant, making it another excellent addition to Zorn's ever-growing catalogue of intriguing and uncompromising compositions.
