Recorded on the heels of Julian Priester's stint with Herbie Hancock's Headhunters band, 1974's LOVE, LOVE holds some of the same flavor as the Headhunters' progressive, funky jazz. Yet LOVE, LOVE was recorded for ECM, and the date also has a good deal of the abstract complexity associated with that label. Priester plays trombone, whistle flute, percussion, and synthesizers, and is backed by a nine-piece band that lays down sinuous, African-flavored grooves, synthesizer-fueled spacescapes, and instrumental free jazz flights.
