Harnessing the power of every rhythm-driven musical genre of the past millennium, San Francisco instrumental quartet Tussle explore the hip-swaying groove of disco, the driving rush of Motorik, the depth charge bounce of dub, the polyrhythms of African tribal music, and the adrenaline pump of techno on their debut full-length Kling Klang. They build each piece on heavy repetition with subtle variations, led by two live drum kits and bass guitar, and fleshed out by additional percussion, electronic and organic, a melodica, and a plethora of exotic electronic sounds and samples. In the process they develop a language as expressive as any built on words. Suitable either for headphones on the couch, a party soundtrack or the nightclub dancefloor, this collection of mind-altering booty shakers should appeal to acid ravers and indie rockers alike.
