Make way then for Evol Intent's first mix for Renegade Hardware sister label Barcode. Package in both mixed and unmixed form, you're recommended to go straight for the mix, where grinding bass and rapid-fire cymbals collide ceaselessly with artists such as Raiden, Ewun, and Chase & Status all contributing multiple tracks. While this sort of hardcore d&b might be seen as reactionary by some, it is not without some technical advances, with the occasional MAX/MSP sonic garnish reminding the listener that this album is not in fact a decade old. But regardless of timing, if you're looking for uncompromising, technically fierce drum & bass, Evol Intent delivers, rave stabs and all. ~ Joshua Glazer|
