Tom Russell is a quiet legend in American folk music. A seasoned citizen of the world, the soulful singer-songwriter has honed his masterful storytelling skills, which shines through brilliantly in his music. His songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Doug Sahm, Nanci Griffith, Dave Alvin, Joe Ely, Ian Tyson, Suzy Bogguss, Guy Clark, and many others. Russell has created a new tradition, annually taking a train trip across Canada, where he and frequent collaborator Andrew Hardin play daily aboard the train. 2004 was his third year making the pilgrimage, and this record of the trip documents the performances along with the breathtaking Canadian landscape, interviews with the musicians, full concerts in Toronto and Vancouver, and footage from the Philadelphia folk festival. Guests include the Hot Club of Cowtown, Kristi Rose, and Fats Kaplin, while interviews with Andrew Hardin, Dave Alvin, and Eliza Gilkyson shed light on Tom's songwriting craft and process.|
