or fans of idiosyncratic, arty alt-rock band Throwing Muses, IN A DOGHOUSE offers a chance to catch up with the band's early history. Over the course of two discs, IN A DOGHOUSE collects the band's lesser known early work, their eponymous 1986 debut recording, the following year's CHAINS CHANGED EP, 1985's THE DOGHOUSE CASSETTE and several bonus cuts that were originally composed back in 1983, but not recorded until '96. With all this archival material to delve through, listeners might feel overwhelmed were it not for the organic accessibility of even the most cerebral of Throwing Muses' songs. You can hear shades of things to come in future Belly leader Tanya Donelly's contributions to the material here just as clearly as you can trace Hersh's more introspective solo work back to its rockier roots.|
