This is a fine double-disc set that brings together many hard-to-find Benny Goodman recordings, most of which were made for radio dates in the mid-to-late '40s. The first disc, focusing on Goodman's big bands, swings relentlessly, with Goodman's sweet, agile clarinet lines floating over the top. The second disc features small-combo "All Star groups," and is equally satisfying. Both discs include a host of standards, originals, and jazz hits of the time, making this a fine representation of the famous bandleader's particular magic.
