「‘グ’なんとかという奴知ってる？あいつの歌カッコいいよな」という男子高校生の会話を耳にして、思わず「それってCraig Davidだよ」って教えてあげたくなってしまったことがある。 その時の私はまるで覚えたての英語を使いたがる子供のような感じだったのかもしれない。 だってずっと気になって探していた曲がCraig Davidの曲だと分かり、やっと顔と名前と音楽が一致したばかりだったから。 ２ステップという斬新なサウンドと男の子ならメッチャ親近感が沸くであろう歌詞の内容…。 あの高校生が惹かれてしまったのもなんだか分かる気がする。 しかし、彼女の親に干渉されてチョットめんどくさがっている歌（Fill Me In）とか、恋人がいるのに他の異性に誘惑されてチョット喜んでいる歌（Can't Be Messing 'Round）とか、ずばりナンパの歌（7 Days）とか、そんな歌詞ばっかり（笑）。 ふぅ…中身があるようでないような…ないようであるような…。 だけどそんな思いを払拭し、やっぱこいつはタダモノじゃないと思い知らされる曲がある。 　　　***** But Now I Truly Realise , Some People Don't Wanna Compromise ***** すぐUKだと分かってしまうほど憂いを帯びたメロディと一緒に表れるのが、『Walking Away』“逃げる/出ていく”というネガティブな感情。 特に“でも今真実を知った/歩み寄れない人もいるんだって”というフレーズには心が揺さぶられてしまう。 基本的には「やんちゃ坊主」なのに、ドキッとするようなことをホントにさらりとやってのける。 そういうとこにオンナは弱いのよ、まったく。 さてさてあの高校生はCraig Davidと再会できたかな…。 (C)mio
