SKYLARKING is the best collection available of Horace Andy's pioneering work. His haunting vibratto delivery and unique phrasing provided the foundation of the "Waterhouse" style, so named after a district of Kingston that many reggae legends call home. Echoes of the style can be heard in the vocals of numerous contemporaries like Patrick Andy, Michael Palmer, and Pad Anthony. Andy was also an influence on later dancehall stars Junior Reid, Yami Bolo, and Michael Rose.
SKYLARKING collects prime material from several different eras. The title song dates from Andy's early days with the legendary producer Coxsone Dodd. "Natty Dread a Weh She Want," "Money Money," and the disturbingly beautiful "Rock to Sleep" are absolute classics from the prime of his popularity in Jamaica. Two tracks, "Spying Glass" and "One Love" are remixed by Massive Attack, who gave the singer's career new life when it recruited him to contribute vocals for its 1991 debut, BLUE LINES.|
