Save for the band's stunning, minimalistic 1978 debut "Being Boiled", GREATEST HITS ignores the two albums by the band's artier original lineup, half of which split to form Heaven 17 before the mega-successful DARE! turned the Human League into international superstars. Wisely, this 13-track compilation collects all of that album's four singles--including "Don't You Want Me", of course--and mixes in "Keep Feeling Fascination" and the almost Beatlesque "Mirror Man", the two excellent 1983 singles collected on the stopgap FASCINATION EP, which has never been issued on CD.
The other half of the disc hits the high points of the spotty HYSTERIA and CRASH albums, including the emotional ballads "Louise" and "Life On Your Own", and throws in Phil Oakey's sublime solo hit "Together in Electric Dreams" for good measure. Overall, GREATEST HITS is as good a Human League best-of as you can imagine.|
