For better or worse, Right Said Fred will forever be the "I'm Too Sexy" group. UP, the album containing that smash hit single, is full of similarly upbeat, punchy, ever-so slightly sarcastic songs about love and, well, love. Though programmed and arranged by one Tommy D, perhaps surprisingly, Right Said Fred is made up of three people--two guitarists and a singer, two of whom are brothers--who write all the music themselves. And the music that they have written for UP is almost relentlessly chipper, and would make for the perfect listening experience while cleaning the house, not to mention while down at the disco.
Opening with "A Love for All Seasons" and the lyric "October was a drag / Damn it all / You and I were fools," the record is consistently high-energy (except for the lower-key "Upon My Heart"). Standouts include "Deeply Dippy," an acoustic guitar knockabout that eventually blossoms into a completely over-the-top dance number with a huge horn section; "Don't Talk Just Kiss," with its heavy beat, slick backing vocals, and jangling, processed guitar; and, of course, "I'm Too Sexy," a goofy piss-take on the culture of supermodels.
