Schaffer blends his passions for metal and history, hoping to engender in the younger generations a taste for knowledge with his ambitious concept album. Volume I of this double release unfolds in three chapters: "The Devil to Pay," "Hold at all Costs," and "High Water Mark;" each combines images and music to tell the story of the pivotal battle of July, 1863. Each volume also contains a 50-minute interview with Schaffer, during which he discusses his views on the complex historical event of Gettysburg, as well as the paltry state of the current educational system, which leaves children ignorant of many monumental aspects of history. Also included is a photo gallery and additional versions of the songs, rendering this a significant release, and in many respects, a true historical epic told through innovative metal music.
