Narrated by the heavy-voiced John Lurie, "Spillane" is the final evolution of the collage technique begun with "Godard" and further developed on the brilliant Ennio Morricone tribute, THE BIG GUNDOWN. It might even surpass that seminal post-modern project in its concision, humor, and originality. This 1999 release on Zorn's own Tzadik label offers a remastered "Spillane" from the 1987 Nonesuch LP plus the original "Godard," a pitch-perfect portrait of the great filmmaker, which features a different kind of tough guy narrator--a harshly robotic voice straight out of ALPHAVILLE. As a bonus, the rare "Blues Noel" is also included.
