The value of Teddy Wilson in his early days cannot be discounted, and although you can get more complete works in a variety of contexts, this collection offers a representative sampling. Of the 22 tracks, there are five precious solo piano numbers, eight with his big band, and two with smaller ensembles. This alone should whet your whistle to pursue more of his comprehensive works as a leader. Wilson was also a pivotal sideman with Benny Goodman, and there are three excellent cuts present. A CD which in fact is a fine introduction to a true pioneer of jazz, this is easily recommended to new converts of vintage jazz, and even fans who want an overview of his early days. ~ Michael G.
