For some unknown reason, the Wounded Bird label chose to present their three two-for-one editions of Randy Crawford's earlier solo albums out of sequence. Here, 1976's Everything Must Change -- Crawford's Warner Bros. debut -- is paired with 1980's Now We May Begin, even though Miss Randy Crawford and Raw Silk were released during the intervening years. Chronological sense aside, it's really no matter since each of the three packages are on near-equal footing with one another; there's no reason not to pick up the other two if you enjoy this set. Now We May Begin has the edge on this disc since Crawford in top form, supported by production and instrumental assistance from the Crusaders (at the time, the whole crew had just struck gold with the magnificent "Street Life"). ~ Andy Kellman
