1873年、ドヴォルザークはアンナ・チェルマーコヴァーと結婚します。彼女は以前、彼が音楽教師を務めていた時の生徒。その時はアンナとその姉、ヨゼフィーナもドヴォルザークにに師事していました。実はドヴォルザークは姉のヨゼフィーナに恋心を抱いていたのですが、それはかなわずアンナを妻に迎えたのでした。そしてヨゼフィーナを忘れることができなかった彼の満たされぬ思いから生まれたのが歌曲集「糸杉」でした。その後、20年以上を経て、ドヴォルザークは「糸杉」のうち何曲かを弦楽四重奏曲に編曲。甘酸っぱい恋の思いはそのままに、品の良い美しい四重奏曲として仕上がっています。録音のあまり多くない「糸杉」では、ロビンソンの伸びやかな歌声が作品の魅力を存分に伝えています。
