Sellers second album for BNA is a distinct improvement over his debut effort.
This time out Sellers material is a perfect match for his native inclinations as a vocalist. He grew up singing in his family's gospel group and, more than anything, Sellers brings a very powerful, soulful voice to his interpetation of country. He excels at ballad singing and six of the 11 tracks on A Matter of Time are exactly that sort of tune, the strongest of them being "What A Lover Is For" and "That's Not Her Picture" (an odd lyrical story). The first single off this album is not a ballad, however, but the title track, a song with an easy groove that should make an impression on mainstream country radio. It's the uptempo tracks that have made this project an effort that supersedes his first album in every aspect. The rousing vibe of "This Thing Called Life," which tests Sellers' vocal range as well, a great duet with Pam Tillis covering the George Jones/Tammy Wynette song "Golden Ring" and "Everybody's Walking" are all substantial tracks that add stylistic breadth to Sellers' sophomore effort. ~ Philip Van Vleck
