Vol. 12 in Storyville's Golden Years of Revival Jazz has music from a variety of top British and Scandinavian trad musicians of the 1950s and early '60s. Papa Bue's Viking Jazzband (one of the more exciting groups of the era) has four numbers, and there are also spots for Acker Bilk's Paramount Jazzband (including George Lewis' "St. Phillip Street Breakdown"), Papa Benny's Jazzband, Chris Barber sitting in with a Danish band, Graham Stewart's New Orleans Band, and the Theis/Nyegaard Jazzband (which finds trumpeter Theis Jensen sounding very close to 1950s Louis Armstrong). Lots of exciting hot jazz is heard in this valuable reissue series. ~ Scott Yanow
