Down Beat (12/93, p.43) - 3 Stars - Good - "...an inter-generational tenor titan triumverate...you can clearly hear the contrast and continuity between Cobb's roughhewn Texas sound, Heath's smoother, soulful Philly tone, and Henderson's unique post-Trane take...."|

This blowing session (comprised of Charlie Parker's "Steeple Chase," Arnett Cobb's "Smooth Sailing," "Lester Leaps In," a four-song ballad medley and "I Got Rhythm") is of greatest interest for featuring the contrasting styles of tenors Arnett Cobb, Joe Henderson and Jimmy Heath; the latter also plays a bit of soprano and flute. This being one of Cobb's final recordings (he died less than a year later), he holds his own against the younger tenors during this German concert, taking "Smooth Sailing" as his feature. One should have little trouble telling the three tenor masters apart. ~ Scott Yanow
