Best-known in the New York region for his work with Jackalope Junction, Dave Isaacs is a talented songwriter and guitarist and his debut album Prodigal Son shows a confident artist at work, particularly in the arrangements, which are warm, fluid, and pop/jazzy. The songs themselves fall on the intimate side of adult contemporary, and Isaacs' voice has a comfortable, familiar feel to it, sounding like Elton John at times or a quietly soul-searching Jim Croce. The sad torch song "Isabella," which opens the album, pretty much sets the table. ~ Steve Leggett
