No one could seriously mistake this for a collection of John Holt's greatest hits, but it does contain a workable set of rare, early roots numbers produced by the legendary Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, making it a sort of secondary purchase for fans and collectors. The sound is rather muted in spots, with some crackles and pops, and it is obvious that these tracks were mastered from Jamaican 45s, and not from the original tapes. That said, this is an interesting compilation, but not for the uninitiated. ~ Steve Leggett
