It is widely believed that rock & roll is a genre for the young, but sometimes it takes a veteran to get it...well, perfect. Testament to this is ONCE, TWICE, THREE TIMES A MAYBE, the first full-length release by the band Perfect, led by ex-Replacements bassist/co-founder Tommy Stinson. Stinson's brand of rock is piquant and poppy, with sophisticated lyrics, earnest melodies, and exquisite harmonies bordering on the anthemic. Overdriven guitars and driving bass lines meld with Stinson's gutsy vocal delivery, updating the sounds of Elvis Costello and the Attractions or Television with the youthful vigor of Jimmy Eat World.
Stinson formed Perfect in 1995 after the demise of his first post-Replacements band, Bash & Pop. Produced by Jim Dickinson (Replacements, Big Star) and originally titled SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, MAYBE was recorded in 1996, but shelved due to record-label politics. Eight years later, resurrected and re-christened, it still retained all its rock & roll magic.
