Personnel: K.D. Lang (vocals, guitar); Ben Mink (guitars, strings); Dean Parks (wah-wah guitar); Greg Leisz (steel guitar); Chris Stephens (banjo); John Friesen (cello); Stephen Kujala (flute); Lincoln Adler (alto saxophone); Annie King (baritone saxophone); Ann Patterson (trumpet); Tom Ralls (trombone); Teddy Borowiecki (keyboards, accordion); Randall Stoll (drums); Greg Wells (percussion). Recorded at Armoury Studios, Vancouver, Canada; The Chapel Studio, Encino, California; Conway Studios, Los Angeles, California. All songs written by K.D. Lang and Ben Mink except "Myth" (K.D. Lang/Teddy Borowiecki), "Don't Be A Lemming Polka" (K.D. Lang) and "Sweet Little Cherokee" (Russ Hull/Gloria Gordon/Jimmy Weir). By most accounts not a real album, k.d. lang's soundtrack to Gus Van Sant's adaptation of Tom Robbins' novel is a mostly experimental work, landing halfway between the torch songs of Ingenue and the country of her earlier albums. Most fans will find Even Cowgirls Get the Blues interesting, although they won't return to it often. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

商品の紹介

Rolling Stone (3/10/94, p.65) - 3 1/2 Stars - Good Plus - "...lush instrumentals varying from twang-guitar atmospherics to the bittersweet carnival feeling of Fellini film scores....it's more than enough to tide fans over until [lang's] next studio affair...." Spin (1/94, p.74) - Highly Recommended - "...[EVEN COWGIRLS] is guaranteed restaurant background--you'll be dining to it for at least six months... [k.d. lang's] firmly planted in the American West, tumbling with tumbleweeds, spreading out that voice like a silk prairie blanket..." Entertainment Weekly (11/5/93, p.67) - "...Of the 16 cuts on EVEN COWGIRLS GET THE BLUES, only half feature vocals, and only four aspire to full-length songs...But on repeated plays, Lang's highly eccentric effort proves fascinatingly eclectic...." - Rating: B Q (12/93, p.112) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "...[EVEN COWGIRLS] boasts six new vocal performances [from lang] and her singing remains the definition of sublime..." Melody Maker (11/6/93, p.31) - "...she crafts an immaculate, unfussy soundtrack...this is certainly her most appealing work to date...." NME (Magazine) (11/20/93, p.33) - 8 - Excellent - "...Cheerfully close to the original mood of the novel, the music is wonderful...."
