Okay, so there's a certain marketing-demographic aspect to the assembling of five pinup-worthy young women into a pop vocal group. That sort of thing has been going on at least since the 1950s. The real issue at hand is the functionality of the pop music that's created in the process. For those enamored of Britney Spears or Destiny's Child, Eden's Crush offers just the right mix of high-production teenpop and crossover R&B. The self-prophesizing POPSTARS is loaded up with winsome sex-kitten vocals, sinuous rhythms, catchy choruses, and more snaky synthesizer lines than you can shake a stick at. Individualistic statement of artistic intent? Unlikely. Spot-on package of sparkling, contemporary pop? Absolutely.
