Horace Andy has been a cherished talent on the reggae scene since the early '70s, reaching a new contemporary audience thanks in part to his various collaborations with seminal trip-hop crew Massive Attack. RUDE BOY is a pleasant offering placing Andy in familiar reggae surroundings. Released in 1993, the set tests the singer's skill in the dancehall rhythms which had become the reggae standard a decade earlier. Andy is assisted by Sly and Robbie, Mafia and Fluxie, and Dean Fraser in laying down the rhythms for this set. Most of the songs on the set are versions of various reggae and pop classics, including "Noisy Street," which Andy would later morph into "Man Next Door" on Massive Attack's MEZZANINE. Other standouts on the set include "Kuff Dem" and "That's How I Feel," a duet with Bunny Rugs. RUDE BOY proves that Andy is still undeniably one of the strongest voices in reggae music.
