Perhaps second to only Freddie Mercury, Gary Glitter was the most flamboyant figure of the early '70s U.K. glam rock movement. With a bouffant hairdo, snazzy clothes, high platform boots, and hairy chest exposed, to the delight of his female fans, Glitter rocked his way to the top of the British charts, enjoying a string of big hit singles.
1998's 16-track compilation, THE ULTIMATE, is a fine introduction to one of glam rock's leading artists. You can't go wrong with such glam standards as "Rock & Roll Pt. 2", "Do You Wanna Touch Me", "I Didn't Know I Loved You", "Doing Alright With the Boys", and "Oh Yes! You're Beautiful", which are all included here in their mascara-caked glory.|
