All good things must come to an end, and the same holds true for even modest endeavors. Just when Holiday appeared on the verge of bigger and better things, singer/songwriter Josh Gennet decided to pull the plug. Cafe Reggio collects material from an aborted third album, recorded this time with returning producer Dave Trumfio as well as Ashtray Boy's J. Niimi, who also took over drumming duties for the departed Calvin Chin. Fans of the band will love light tracks like "Well Enough Alone," "Something About You," and "Your Very Last Party," though the disc never really exploits Holiday's rich potential. Rounding out Cafe Reggio is a quartet of 1993 songs, including a cover of the Magnetic Fields' "Candy," recorded for a pre-Holiday single. ~ Joshua Klein|
