If you want to get technical about it, this is not actually a concert album at all. Though the album's original liner notes claimed that these 11 songs were recorded before New York and Boston audiences, it's since been revealed that Phil Ochs recorded these songs alone in a studio and crowd noise was added later. (The "live" tracks on SIMON AND GARFUNKEL'S GREATEST HITS and John's Children's ORGASM were created the same way, a common practice in the '60s.)
This doesn't matter in the least, however, because IN CONCERT is one of Ochs' best albums, full of biting, ironic humor--both in songs like "Love Me, I'm a Liberal" and in Ochs' pre-song banter, like his hilarious monologue before "Ringing of Revolution"--and moments of ethereal beauty like the transcendent "There But for Fortune." Ochs' voice rarely sounded better, and the songs are simply amazing, making questions of authenticity ultimately moot.
録音 : ステレオ (Live)
