BLUES was originally released in 1963-two years after Williams left the Count Basie Band to embark on a solo career. Williams explores the blues from a jazz perspective. Duke Ellington's heartbreakingly ironic "Rocks in My Bed," featuring a lyrical guest-solo appearance by Ben Webster on tenor sax, is a BLUES high point.
