srael Vibration is virtually unique amongst vocal groups in that all three (later two) of the members have contributed equally to the songwriting. This rare talent gives them further distinction, as each composer sings lead on his own songs, the others stepping back to provide the harmonies. These forever-shifting perspectives and lead vocals have made the group a force in reggae music; the power of three sharing a sound and vision. Power of the Trinity pays homage to the Vibe's unstoppable force on this lavish three-CD boxed set. The trio has been a RAS success story, and the label has repaid the Vibes in full with this, an ultimate collection, compiled with much thought, respect, and obvious love. Even though the group was reduced to a duo in 1997 with the departure of founding member Albert "Apple" Craig, his contribution is not slighted and is given equal weight as the remaining pair. Each member gets his due with an album devoted exclusively to his songs, with the music arranged chronologically and drawn from across the group's entire career. Each of the dozen numbers is prefaced by a brief introduction, where the composing Vibe gives his thoughts on the song. The disc is appended with an individual interview conducted by RAS label head Doctor Dread. The CDs each come with sleeve notes that include lyrics, transcripts of the intros and interview, complete recording credits, and photos. A lavish booklet is also included stuffed with photos and liner notes penned by reggae experts and men who have worked with the trio. Although the CDs would be made available individually, the full weight of the Vibes is best experienced on Power of the Trinity. As a trio the group stood together against all adversity and found their strength in unity. That unity eventually splintered, but Cecil "Skelly" Spence and Lascelle "Wiss" Bulgin have kept the vision intact, and the Vibes live on. This set is a potent reminder of the group's past glories; more than a greatest-hits collection, this is a window into the trio's world, their lives, and their views. It may be aimed at fans, but for newcomers there's no better way to meet these three extraordinary men. ~ Jo-Ann Greene|
