This four-disc set of traditional Irish folk music is culled from the collection of now-defunct U.K. folk giant Transatlantic Records. Irish Folk Favourites features songs and ballads as well as jigs, reels, and other dance tunes. The compilation focuses on six major artists, and rather than scattering them throughout the set, they are each presented in long blocks of ten to 12 songs, making it seem more like a collection of individual albums. The featured artists are the Dubliners, the Kilfenora Ceili Band, Sweeney's Men, the Grehan Sisters, the Fureys, and Mick Moloney. Despite the odd sequence, there is a bevy of wonderful music here by some of the more prominent acts from the Irish folk scene in the late '60s and '70s. ~ Timothy Monger
