Kottke's second release for the experimental new age label Private Music, REGARDS FROM CHUCK PINK is less somber than 1986's A SHOUT TOWARDS NOON, with a more pronounced jazz influence. Playing both electric guitar and MIDI guitar synthesizer over Buell Niedlinger's bass and Jim Keltner's drums, with occasional string section and woodwind accompaniment, Kottke imbues these 13 whimsical instrumentals with his usual beauty and grace. Purists might not appreciate the fusion-style arrangements, but REGARDS FROM CHUCK PINK is a delight.
