The music of the Pork posse just keeps getting more and more wonderfully pungent. The discs come out quicker than links from a sausage factory, but when the inspectors maintain such a high level of quality control, as on this Baby Mammoth biggie, you're left hungry for more. The Babes are more prone to dabble in synthetics than some of their label cohorts (Bullitnuts, Akotcha), and their wooly brand of funk shows they're not just babes fresh from the woods.
"Skidding on All Fours" must be the perfect merger of Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, and drum-and-bass-lite--breezy synth-pop with the effervescence of Dom Perignon on a wedding night spent in a starship. "Zen Butchers", all skipping hi-hats, curling Moogs, and deep-space metallic strings, lifts you up and just takes you away, surfing on a dream. Can there be such a thing as "space funk?" If so, Baby Mammoth make your space-funk dreams come true.|
