Photographer: Jill Greenberg. Moby has arguably been the most important figure in electronic music since emerging in the late '80s with classic techno singles like "Go" (which brilliantly sampled the theme to Twin Peaks) and "I Feel It." Moby challenged the techno form both musically (incorporating elements of punk, disco, and even gospel) and commercially (bringing attention to his name and image in a musical genre known for the anonymity of its artists). Although Moby has also found success remixing tunes for artists ranging from David Bowie to the B-52's, his own compositions have become familiar through appearances in commercials and motion pictures, and many of his songs are dancefloor classics. The appropriately titled The Story So Far is a collection of several of Moby's biggest club hits and ambient favorites, several of which are presented in previously unreleased forms (including rare mixes of "Drop a Beat" and "Go"). The Story So Far also includes the classics "Ah Ah" and the slightly psychotic "Thousand" (which clocks in at over 1,000 beats per minute), and lesser-known gems like "Help Me to Believe" and "Stream." The Story So Far, while only scratching the surface of Moby's talent and versatility, is a decent overview of the early career of this techno pioneer. ~ William Cooper
