Originally released in the mid-'70s, within Polydor's then pacesetting Flashback series, Julie Driscoll's With Auger & Trinity is an excellent compilation that hits every one of the heights you'd hope for, and encapsulates just why Driscoll remains one of the most admired vocalists of her (or any other) generation. Both the hit singles are here, of course, together with key album cuts "Season of the Witch," "Why (Am I Treated So Bad)," and "Let the Sunshine In," while writing credits that spread from David Ackles to the Doors, from Laura Nyro to Richie Havens, and onto Auger and Driscoll's own "A Kind of Love In" firmly spotlight her breathtaking dexterity. With their actual recording career confined to little more than six sides of long-playing vinyl, and some of the best material (BBC sessions and sundry live recordings) still in the vault, the need for a full Driscoll/Auger anthology grows louder every year. This 30-odd-year old compilation, however, will at least keep you happy until it arrives. ~ Dave Thompson
