Includes liner notes by Norman Granz. For this trio set with bassist Niels Pedersen and drummer Terry Clarke, the great pianist Oscar Peterson (appearing at the 1981 Montreux Jazz Festival) performs a medley of "Misty" and "Waltz for Debby," three standards, his own "Cakewalk" and the debut of "Nigerian Marketplace," the first section of an extended suite not yet completed at the time. This is a well-rounded set (reissued on CD) that finds the remarkable Oscar Peterson in typically swinging and prime form. ~ Scott Yanow

Nigerian Marketplace｜CDアルバム
1981年のモントルージャズフェスティバルでのオスカーピーターソントリオの演奏を収録した一枚。アルバムタイトルにもなっている1曲目が圧巻。しんなりと始まるイントロから、エンジンを温めながら徐々に展開されていく3人の演奏がたまらない。ピーターソンの鍵盤に拍車をかけるクラークテリーのドラムに、最後はペデルセンの超絶テクを伴ったベースで完全ノックアウト。
