Zofia Komeda officially released this document by Krzysztof Komeda's sextet in 2003. Consisting of four pieces, ranging from the beautifully haunting "Daytime Requiem" that clocks in at over 26 minutes to the lovely mournful "Ballad for Brent" at three. This was the great Komeda band at the peak of their powers, weaving improvisation and his weighty compositions seamlessly. Michal Urbaniak on tenor and violin, Zbigniew Namyslowki on alto, Tomasz Stanko on trumpet, Rune Carlsson on drums, and Roman Dylag on bass -- often played with beautiful arco technique -- create a seamless weave of advanced harmonic conception, striated dynamics, and fluctuating lyric tunes that reflect the contemporary classical scene as much as they do Eastern European new thing jazz. There is also a CD-R track included that features an extended film interview with Komeda. ~ Thom Jurek
