The Searchers' final Pye Records LP comes to life as never before on CD in this 24-bit mastered edition, which is the first edition that displays the punch and depth that the group actually generated. By this time in their history, the band was simply trying to keep its head above water, searching (no pun) for a new potential hit, but as the playing here reveals, they still had a spirited approach to whatever music they were doing. The mono and stereo mixes are both present, and both pound away nicely, with a robust sound, although there are surprising little details in the playing and singing that become clear through the separation of the instruments on the stereo versions. The bonus cuts include outtakes of "I'll Be Doggone" and "Once Upon a Time," and related singles and B-sides (plus a German version of "He's Got No Love"). The notes tell a depressing but revealing story about the dying days of the group's relationship with Pye Records, and Chris Curtis' final break with the band. ~ Bruce Eder|
