The cool-toned guitarist Ron Affif recalls Kenny Burrell a bit in this outing with a pianoless trio also including bassist Essiet Essiet and drummer Jeff "Tain" Watts. Although the program is dedicated to 52nd Street, the opening number ("Bohemia After Dark") was not even written when Swing Street was functioning. The setting and Affif's improvising style recall Kenny Burrell in spots, but the guitarist does have a voice of his own. Highlights include "Stompin' at the Savoy," "Yardbird Suite" and "Steeplechase." ~ Scott Yanow
