Recorded at Group IV Recording Studio, Hollywood, California on December 28, 1993 and from February 15-17, 1994. Includes liner notes by Jim Ferguson. The exciting bop-based guitarist Ron Affif performs nine songs associated with Miles Davis (of the 1953-1963 era) on this fine straight-ahead set. Joined by pianist Brian O' Rourke, bassist Andy Simpkins, drummer Colin Bailey, and (on "Solar" and "Vierd Blues") guitarist Ron Anthony and percussionist Brian Kilgore, Affif romps through such numbers as "So What," "Milestones," "The Theme," and "Seven Steps to Heaven." He also contributes the two-part "Homage to Miles." Since there is no trumpet on the set, no one merely copies Davis, and this project simply serves as a fine excuse to play good music. ~ Scott Yanow
