Personnel: Joe Albany (piano); Warne Marsh (tenor saxophone); Bob Whitlock (bass).
Recorded in Los Angeles, California in 1957. Originally released on Riverside (12-270).
Recorded at legendary pianist Joe Albany's house, this has to be the most lo-fi mainstream jazz album ever to see a first-run release. But the results were just too compelling to leave it on the shelf. As with an old blues album, the listener is eventually drawn in by the substance of the music. While Albany is fine, it's tenor saxophonist Warne Marsh's solos (Clifford Brown's "Dahoud," "Body & Soul") that merit the attention. It's doubtful if this saxophonist ever played anything hackneyed or second-hand in his life. Like his brother-in-arms Lee Konitz, he learned his lessons with that other legend, Lennie Tristano, well.
録音 : ステレオ (Studio)
