Someone at Motown/Universal had a wicked sense of humor pairing these two releases together in one package. The first half, 1973's Let's Get It On, is unquestionably one of the most sexual -- even at times downright raunchy -- R&B albums ever made. In contrast, the album made five years later, Here, My Dear, is one of the most bitter divorce/breakup albums in the soul canon. It's a wildly jarring ride to hear "You Sure Love to Ball" and "When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You" separated by no less than three songs. However, the transition between Let's Get It On's finale, "Just to Keep You Satisfied," and Here, My Dear's opening title track is surprisingly smooth, as if this compilation were designed for a one-night stand where someone became too invested in the other person too quickly. It might not be the best two-fer pairing available, but it certainly is one of the more interesting ones. ~ Rob Theakston
