Though it's firmly cast in the modern country model, there's an authenticity in Wade Hayes' music possessed by few in today's pop-country market. Hayes leaves no doubt that traditional country continues to be a strong influence on his music even if his sound is painted with a veneer of pop. His deep Southern voice floats elegantly over the love song "Good-bye is the Wrong Way to Go," while Liana Manis' background vocals add an Emmylou Harris-like yearning. On "She Used to Say That to Me," Hayes and company adopt a more traditional country swing feel, while "Up North (Down South, Back East, Out West)" is an infectious country rock number that'll have you two-stepping round the neighborhood in no time.
