The soundtrack to Driv3r, the third game in the Driver series, features a hip and aggressive set of songs narrated by the master of hip aggression, Iggy Pop. Pop's deadpan, craggy drawl between songs makes Driv3r's brash mix of nu-garage rock, punk, emo, and electronica sound that much more explosive, not just on his own classic with the Stooges, "Gimme Danger," but also on the grimy grind of the Raveonettes' "Bowels of the Beast" and Phantom Planet's sneering "Big Brat." The soundtrack balances these songs' kinetic energy with more atmospheric tracks like Okuniev's "Ripe for the Devil" and Syntax's "Destiny," but Driv3r's focus is on pedal-to-the-metal intensity, as Narco's "Evil Brother" and the BellRays' "Zero PM" display. Tracks by Los Halos, Stateless, and Hope of the States round out Driv3r, a better than average video game soundtrack that shouldn't wear out its welcome even after many hours of game play. ~ Heather Phares
