Recording information: Dallas, TX. Formed in Durango, Mexico in 1981, the Grupo Montez De Durango proteges Patrulla 81have only matured with age. With a history that includes success in its native region, as well as stints in Bakersfield, California and Denver, Colorado (where it is now based), the band is a firm favorite among Norteno aficionados on both sides of the border. EN VIVO DESDE DALLAS, TEXAS is a live airing of many of the songs included on Patrulla 81's previous COMO PUEDE ENAMORARME DE TI collection. Percussion-heavy and energetic, the group's sound is immensely endearing. Particular standouts include "Cuando Mas Tranquilla Te Halles", with its eccentric snare drum rolls punctuating a frantic two-step, the perky waltz "Que Bonita Es Mi Tierra," and the lively, traditional-sounding "La Brujita." Patrulla 81 are expert in conjuring snapshots of their Mexican homeland in an unsentimental but heartfelt way, and judging by the crowd response here, their audience echoes the sentiments.
