After penning hits for successful R&B artists such as En Vogue ("Don't Let Love Go [Love]"), Monica ("Before You Walk Out Of My Life") and SWV ("You're The One") songwriter/producer Andrea Martin put together her solo debut. THE BEST OF ME, on which Martin is a co-writer of eleven tracks, is an exercise in beautiful songwriting and strong production. "Let Me Return the Favor," produced by Rodney Jerkins and Tony Maserati, is a very good example of her diversity. It shows Martin's vocal dynamics and her ability to keep a mid-tempo track bumping by scripting innovative changes in the song's structure. The track goes from a Jeep-pumper to a reggae break to a beautiful bridge and back. Other tracks that deserve attention are "Share The Love," "Steppin'" and "Baby Can I Hold You," which was produced by Wyclef Jean and Jerry "TE BASS" Duplessis. On the title cut, Martin offers up a Babyface-type pop ballad possessed of a smooth melody and a sweet, soft arrangement. THE BEST OF ME is a reflection of a truly talented songwriter and her vision.
