This collection of Dean Martin's hits and misses falls right in the middle of the quality spectrum in terms of content. It's beyond budget in presentation, but for those looking for a quick fix, this 18-track set might do the trick. The biggest hits are all here, though few of them are original versions: in Martin's case it didn't really matter, since he usually performed things the same way . If the first two tracks are "That's Amore" and "Everybody Loves Somebody," and you get a medley of "Volare" and "On an Evening in Roma," what else could you want, right? Well, for starters, Martin's version of "That Lucky Old Sun" is second only to Willie Nelson's, and his "I Can't Give You Anything but Love" steps outside the Rat Pack hipster box for a truly emotional rendering of the song. There are far better comps out there, but this one is okay if all you want is some überhip Dino. ~ Thom Jurek|
