商品の紹介

No Depression - "...Augmented by some Backsliders, Whiskeytowners and even ex-6 String Draggers, Roby offers up his usual wise-guy charm [here].... MERCURY'S BLUES is a simple pleasure that wears well..."
Rovi

Carolina boy Kenny Roby made some major inroads into the music industry during the mid to late '90s as a member of Six String Drag, a band who received quite a lot of positive press following the release of their 1997 album on E-Squared Records. With his solo debut, Roby steps up to the next level, with what can only be described as a spirited and soulful recording. Displaying obvious influences from people like Elvis Costello, Randy Newman, Tom Waits, and the Band, Roby offers up some mighty fine singer/songwriter tracks. "Blow Wind Blow" features an unforgettable melody reminiscent of Robbie Robertson's best, and "Mercury's Blues" comes through with thoughtful lyrics and lots of honesty, a welcome trait in music these days. "Early Mornin' Blues" is a two-part tune that tells the tale of President Bill Clinton, and the set closes with a Springsteen/Waits blend on "Ace, My Radio and Baseball," the best musical homage to the great American pastime in years. Lots of friends from Raleigh, NC, bands are on hand to help create the right mood, including his former Six String Drag bandmates and members of Whiskeytown, the Backsliders, and the Countdown Quartet. This album is by no means over-produced, nor is it harsh or overbearing; it's just plain good music, perfect for any occasion. A fine recording by one of the South's best new talents. ~ Michael B.
