In addition, McCain is a polished songsmith whose efforts often recall the best work of progressive Nashville country artists Radney Foster and Rodney Crowell. With SCREAM & WHISPER, the South Carolina native turns in another set of warmly produced material, heavy with hope and heartache. Fusing bits of blues, jazz, 1980s college rock, and old-fashioned Southern boogie (of both the Lynyrd Skynyrd and Wet Willie varieties), SCREAM & WHISPER lives up to its title, exploring the full range of human emotion with an earthy romanticism that fits like a well-worn pair of leather boots.
